Yogo and Adventure
with Raven Bailey

Thrive Adventures guide Raven Bailey teams up with our Peruvian culture and archeological guides to offer this unique adventure combining yogo, hiking, biking, Inca ruins and cultural connection.
Picture
Raven Bailey is an avid sea kayaker, backpacker, yogi and outdoor junky. She has been a world traveler since her youth and brings a wealth of adventure experience. Growing up in central Wisconsin, her favorite memories are climbing trees and wandering through the woods with her dog. A current, albeit restless, resident of Minneapolis, she is appreciative of the outdoor lifestyle that the City provides and is always ready for the next adventure.  When not leading trips, she enjoys biking, Nordic/alpine skiing, snowshoeing, camping in all seasons, and the time-honored tradition of “hammock cloud gazing.”

Recently retired after 26 years of public service as a probation officer, Raven is comfortable managing challenging conditions including 5 foot waves on Lake Superior in her kayak or getting just the right cream to coffee ratio in her morning cup of java.  She is a 15-year National Ski Patrol veteran. She is a certified yoga and group fitness instructor.  She has been teaching group fitness classes since the age of 18. In addition to living her life to the fullest, Raven has been guiding small group trips as a volunteer and is excited to bring her skills to Thrive Adventures. She considers herself a fun-monger so plan to have some serious fun on any trip she is guiding. She loves to make your travel experience unique and interesting. We could give you some examples but that would spoil the awe and wonder of the unexpected!
Her personal motto is “Go outside. Stay there.”

Thrive Adventures itineraries represent the best our locations have to offer, but we know that each traveler has unique goals. Drop us a line to explore customization. THIS is where Thriving begins!
Day 1: Fly to Cusco
Though Cusco is an international airport, most flights from the US come in through Lima, Peru. An overnight flight or an overnight in Lima are your most likely options.
Day 2: Arrive in Cusco and Acquaint
A member of the team will be there to pick you up upon arrival. Get checked in and cleaned up for our first dinner together!

Accommodation: Cusco

Day 3: Cusco City Tour
Local landmarks and viewpoints will orient us in this mountain village once the home to an extraordinary empire of farmers and builders. Within the ruins overlooking the ancient city of Cusco our Peruvian archaeological expert and wilderness hiking guide will give us a history lesson. With nutritional and motivational wisdom from Dan Miller we embark on our week long journey! Celebrate in the heart of Cusco over dinner.

Accommodation: Cusco
Day 4: Chinchero - Maras - Moray
Start our day outside the village of Maras where a salinized stream flows through an elaborate collection of connected pools constructed in pre-Inca times to harvest salt. It is a truly breathtaking site. We then continue on to the Moray ruin to contemplate the concentric circles that make up an ancient Incan agricultural laboratory. Hike down into the archaeological site which also housed one of the main amphitheaters for the Incas where they performed rituals and ceremonies. Finish the day nestled in the steep mountain valleys of Ollantaytambo with a dinner under-looking the towering and famously impenetrable Inca Fortress in the heart of the village.

Accommodation: Ollantaytambo

Day 5: Inca Trail from Km 104
Take the Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo to begin the shortened version of the famous Inca Trail at Km 104. This route was used as a highway to bring supplies and people straight up the mountain to the most important temples, palaces, and resulting small cities the Inca had ever built, including Machu Picchu, all engineered into the mountains themselves. This route allows us to enjoy the best ruins on the Inca Trail while the masses who come to hike the full 4/5 day pilgrimage are on the trail. Hike through the Sun Gate at sunset, catch a quick glimpse of Machu Picchu (full tour tomorrow), and head down to our accommodation to clean up and replenish.

Hike Details: 6.3mi (10kms), 1,900ft (630m) elevation gain, 4-6 hrs

Accommodation: Aguas Calientes
Day 6: Machu Picchu Walking Tour - Huayna Picchu - Hot Springs
Arrive to experience the iconic sunrise over Machu Picchu and start your full site tour with our archeological expert. Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own and don’t miss your timed entry for the chance to climb Huayna Picchu to the home of the high priest (not for the faint of heart!). Reward ourselves with a soak in the natural hot springs and enjoy dinner in the square in a village only accessible by train.

Accommodation: Aguas Calientes
Day 7: Ollantaytambo Ruins - Pachamama Lunch - Farm Visit - Cusco
Take the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo in the morning. With time on our side we can visit the Fortress we missed on the way in. Continue on with our guide, Valentin, to the market at Urubamba where locals buy and sell goods and tourists are few and far in between. Grab a few essentials and deliver them to our chef, Valentin’s brother, at their family home passed down from his mother where he and his family still live. Walk the farm and learn how REAL Peruvians live. Say goodbye and take the short trip back to Cusco where we will celebrate our experiences and share parting wisdoms.
